Australis Cosmetics Current Obsessions

I've done some massive spending lately. Yay?

I went crazy for anything I could get my hands on (and anything my bank account would allow)

Some of my favourite things from my spending spree are a few products from Australis Cosmetics, in particular their 'Metallix Eyeshadows' and the Bronzeyed Girl eyeshadow palette (exclusive to Kmart).  

Lets start with the Bronzeyed Girl palette. Retailing at $9.99 AUD (I think from memory that is what it was however I KNOW that it is under $10.00) the palette has to offer 6 (very generous in size) shimmer shades. This palette is in the same style to the ever so popular AC/ON Tour Contour Kit. The packaging is the same as so are the sizes of the products. 

All the shadows are shimmer and they have an interesting texture - they're not soft or silky, they kind of feel gritty - but not in a bad way at all. Its kind of nice? In my opinion they feel a lot like the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows! (Side note, those are gorgeous) Once applied they feel silky and smooth and blend incredibly well!

The pigmentation is great on its own and doesn't need a primer for good colour pay off obviously with a primer the colours are more bold. I generally use them without a primer. (if you have oily lids you might want to use a primer)

Swatches:

There are no product names or numbers so I've swatched the shades in the same way they appear in the palette, on my hand. I'll refer to them as row and position. Row is either TOP or BOTTOM and position will be left to right 1, 2 or 3. 

As the palette suggests the shades are all gold/copper/bronze shades and they're all super beautiful.

T1: Yellow/gold/champagne shade, beautiful for all over the lid or inner corner highlight. 

T2: Orange gold shade, will suit all eye colours. 

T3: Beige shimmer/satin shade. Used for highlights or a simple wash over the lids for a subtle look. 

B1: Dusty Rose / Mauve shade, I don't have a shade like this. Its very beautiful. 

B2: Brown/Burgundy/Purple with gold? reflect shimmer. Lovely shade, will look gorgeous in the outer corner. 

B3: Burgundy/Magenta/Plum gold flecks/reflect. Beautiful shade. 

The shades are so pigmented its almost too good to be true. They almost have a duo-chrome look to them in certain light. These shadows are very easy to apply and simple to blend. There is no chunky glitter and very little fallout. Can be applied lightly for a subtle look or packed on for more intensity and won't feel heavy or thick on the lids. 

I really like this palette and I think if you see it, you should pick it up. Its under $10 so why wouldn't you? The shades will compliment all eye colours. This palette is only available at Kmart so I suggest you find it fast! 

Now on to the Metallix eyeshadows! There are six in the range so far each retailing for $8.95. I think this is a pretty reasonable price. In my opinion these are a lot like the Stila magnificent metals foil finish eyeshadows (try saying that five times fast!). Now, I don't own those, but I've swatched them MAAANNNNYYY times. 

The Metallix eyeshadows are a gel/creamy consistency that are best applied with fingers or I find a small lip brush works well for precision. The product itself is so different to other cream eyeshadows (this is what it has in common with the Stila shadows) The product is made up of chunks of shimmer that reminds me of gold leaf but once its applied to the eyelid it smoothes out into a flawless flush of colour! They're truly one of the best 'foiled' products on the market which is why I think the price is so reasonable. 

Getting these to work can be a bit tricky. Many people have a love hate relationship with these and I can understand. It took me a few goes to get these to work for me. (KEEP IN MIND I HAVE DRY SKIN AND NOT VERY OILY LIDS).

On their own, for me, the lasting power is 5ish hours and then signs of creasing happen. (the best thing about this though is that because the product is cream based I can just pat the product back into place and it is usually good for another few hours).

With a primer I get about 6 - 8 hours before creasing happens. 

Setting with an eyeshadow (no primer) I can usually get 8+ hours

Putting a primer down, some eye shadow, then the metallix product then setting it with eyeshadow again is the best way I have found to keep this product from creasing (on me). If I do that (which sounds like a hell of a lot but really its like an extra 5 seconds of my day) then the product has a wear time of basically all day (unless I'm sweating up a storm and I don't think that'll happen right now in the dead of winter). So lets get to the fun part!

Swatches:

Gorgeous, right? You can see the almost flakey-ness of the product (that gold leaf look) but trust me when you work it into the lid that look goes away. You can see the amazing foiled metal shine these products have. SO BEAUTIFUL! These products have names - YAY, but I'll still refer to them like I did with the Bronzeyed Girl palette.

T1: Gold Gaga - Golden copper shade.
T2: Lana Del Grey - Lavender silver shade.
T3: Jay Zed - Olive green/gold shade
B1: Guns and Rose Petals - Baby pink/champagne shade(similar to Stila 'Kitten')
B2: Pearl Jammin' - Rose Gold shade
B3: Plum Diddy - Plum/Chocolate Brown with Red/fuchsia specks

May Favourites

After not having any April favourites I have quite a few May favourites. I did quite a bit of spending and I've found myself loving a heap of new (to me) products that I really want to share with you! 

I bought this blending sponge and instantly fell in love with it. I always use a sponge for my foundation and the one I used to have was just old and getting pretty ratty, so I decided to give this one a go. It cost me around the $5AUD mark and I'm so happy with it. I use it damp and it blends my makeup beautifully into my skin. There are 4 available by Chi Chi and they come in cute colours and a few different shapes too. If you're in the market for a new beauty sponge for your makeup, I can't recommend this enough!

This essence mascara is better than I thought it would be. I've recently been on a 'high end' mascara binge. I've been really into benefits mascaras - 'They're Real' and 'Roller Lash' but I picked up this one on the recommendation from my friend and I'm really enjoying it. For a volumising mascara it does a really good job at length as well. It does add volume to the lashes like it says it does. The brush is unique, the handle is easy to grip as the design on it is rubberised and fits quite nicely in the hand. I didn't like it at first, but like with most mascaras they work better after they've been open for a week or so. After the impromptu waiting period I used it again and I've been loving it ever since. It doesn't make my eyes water or anything either like a lot of mascaras do. I love this, its under $5AUD and I will be recommending it to everyone!

(Sorry for the dark photo). Now to be honest I don't usually prime my eyes, I don't find that I need to. I have dry to normal skin and my lids aren't that oily. I usually wear it if I want the shadows to really stand out with colour. When it comes to this primer, I've been using it for years, I did stage makeup in highschool and I used this when it was a 'new' product. I use it for whenever I need to prime my eyes and I've been doing that more lately as I've been experimenting with different types of eye products that require priming. I really like it, its affordable and I recommend it if you're in the market for a great eye primer!

I have been loving this Bronzes palette by Chi Chi. You can clearly see that the fifth colour along has been used a heap! I use this palette for every day looks and even some evening glam, its perfect for the warmer and cooler months its a real 'all rounder' If you're going to get any of the Chi Chi palettes get this one. (and the Mattes) but this one. 

I've been really into the neutral lip lately, which is strange because I love rocking the dark, bold lip in the cooler months. But the lip liner pencil by essence in shade: 11 - in the nude - and the lipstick by Rimmel in the shade: 'Notting Hill Nude' are one of my favourite combinations. They compliment each other so well and are the perfect nudey pink/brown lip colour which is super on trend at the moment. These products are great together, or on their own. I love the moisture renew line of lipsticks by Rimmel and I really recommend this combo! 

Back to eye products! This is one of the Metallix eyeshadows by Australis. They're new to the market and I think they're great. They do take a little work to get them to not crease (hence the use of the eye primer). I'll be putting out a few posts and vids on how I get these to work for me. 

This one pictured is one of (if not my favourite) the six. Its in the shade 'Guns and rose petals'. Adorable name, beautiful colour and its one of the most beautiful eye products. It gives off that really on trend "foiled" look that I think a lot of people will be after. Best applied with finger or I use a lip brush for precision. At $8.95AUD why wouldn't you get them?!

And last but not least, at the end of the day when you wanna take all these products off your face, use this stuff! Its great for the eye area (I sometimes use it as an all over face makeup remover). Its gentle, does not irritate me, AND it gets everything off. Like everything. This was one of the first brands of makeup remover I ever used and I've been re-purchasing it for years. Simple is a super affordable brand with products that actually work. I really suggest you check them out!

Retail Therapy

Its that time of the year again folks… Exam time. 

Ugh, I hate it, even the word 'exam' makes me feel vomity. I had my first exam of the season today and while I think I did ok, I was still feeling pretty average about it. So after the exam, me and my bestie hopped on the good old B10 and headed into the city! 

Destination: Myer Centre Rundle Mall

Targets: Mac and Priceline

Mission: Success

Our first port of call was the MAC counter in Myer. I knew exactly what I wanted to get, so naturally, I looked around, touched and swatched everything and made a mental 'I want' list. Before buying anything, we looked around all the other high end counters. Sarah wasn't sure on what she wanted to get, so I was more than happy to explore with her. The buddy system works even for shopping. 

We went to the mecca section and I fell in love with a Sila palette. Its one of the 'Eyes are the window' palettes and its in the shade 'Soul' - so much lust for that palette. I have decided that I want to save up and get it, the palette in 'Body' is also gorgeous and I want that one also. 

We bumped into a friend of ours whilst in the midst of shopping, she's also a makeup lover and an all around great human being. It was great to see her. 

Time to buy. We went back to MAC and I went over to get what I was after, Fix+. I've been umming and ahhing over it for a while. I really want it for some eyeshadows I have that aren't as pigmented as they could be and for my loose pigments to make it easier to apply. I'm glad I got it. I've been experimenting with it since I got it and I LOVE IT!

After MAC we made our way over to priceline. I also knew exactly what I wanted to pick up, but unfortunately, they didn't have the one I wanted in the shade I wanted, so I picked up this shade instead (also on my list of the ones I wanted). Its a lipstick by Face Of Australia. 

It is one of their 'Lasting Looks Lip Creme' in the shade 'Coral on & on'. It is a beautiful colour. Suited more for spring and summer and not really seasonally appropriate for this time of year, but I've been wearing this on the days that are unseasonably sunny, so that makes it work! 

I love the packaging of this lipstick, its quite chic and elegant, I love the white of the tube and the engraved FOA logo on the metal. It is just a beautiful product and with a price tag of $10.95AUD I think it is very reasonable. These lipsticks also have a beautiful vanilla scent similar (but in my mind better) than the MAC scent. So far I'm liking this lipstick, I'll probably buy more, I'll keep you posted.

This last thing I picked up on a whim(ish) I'd been eyeing it off the last few times I went in to priceline and I noticed it was a new product, and seeing it at the 'first release sale price' made me want to try it even more, so I picked it up. 

It is the 'xxTreme' ScandalEyes mascara by Rimmel London. I mainly wanted to try it because of the applicator. The wand for this product looks so interesting. Its curved which is nice, but there are two types of bristles for two different types of application. One for length and the other for volume. I've used it a few times and I'm really enjoying it.

The Liebster Award

So I thought I'd finally get around to writing this little post, I was recently nominated by the ever so lovely PastelSparkles. Would you rather take a European sight seeing vacation or a relaxing Caribbean vacation?

I think I would prefer to go on a relaxing Caribbean vacation - I've already done a big European trip and would love to just relax on the beach with some type of delicious cocktail. 

Would you rather have no internet or no mobile phone?

For how long? For me the two are so interconnected that they're kind of the same. I think I'd choose no mobile phone - I've lived without one before and managed just fine. 

Would you rather have no one turn up to your wedding or no one turn up to your funeral?

I think I could handle if people didn't show up to my wedding because there would be at least one person (my husband) there that I could spend the day with - It is our day of course. I would be upset if no one was at my funeral even though I won't be there - I'd like to know that I had a good enough life for people to warrant saying goodbye to me. 

Would you rather know the date of your death or the cause of your death?

Ugh, none? I think the cause. If I knew the date and it wasn't what I was expecting I'd be even more distraught then if I knew the cause. If I knew the cause, I'd just avoid doing that thing!

Would you rather be famous or be the best friend of a famous person?

I would rather be the famous person. I think I'm level headed enough to know how to not let fame get to me. If I was best friends with a famous person and it change them I'd hate it.

Would you rather talk like Yoda or breathe like Darth Vader?

Like Yoda's voice? or just the ways he says it? I don't know, I'd probably say breath like Vader. I've heard my fair share of 'Mouth Breathers' in my time so I know people like that exist!

Would you rather always be overdressed or underdressed? 

Overdressed. Thats how I live my life now.

Would you rather only need to sleep for 5 hours per day or need to sleep for 10 but control your dreams?

Only need 5 hours. Life is too short to spend it sleeping (said the person who loves sleep more than chocolate). I'd like to have 5 hours of weird dreams (its like what I have now) then to control them - I think it takes the fun out of it.

Would you rather everyday was Christmas or every day was your birthday?

I can't think of a worse choice - I hate presents. However, I like buying them for people and on Christmas everyone gets something - so why not have it Christmas always. That way we can listen to Christmas songs/carols all the time!

Would you rather throw away all of your makeup or throw away all of your clothes?

Clothes are cheaper to buy again. I'd throw them away. Besides, I wear a lot of my fiancés clothes so that'd get my by until I can buy more.

Would you rather eat dog food or a mouldy apple?

Mouldy apple. At least I knew that it was once edible. Dog food is not meant for people. So, no. Unless it was like ONE dog biscuit, I think I could do that.

Daily Face + Eyeliner Woes

Two things you should know:

Eyeliner will never be perfect on both eyes - this is a fact we have to live with

A compliment can change you entire day

For some reason, Tuesdays just aren't my day. Some people have issues with Monday, but for me its Tuesday that just doesn't happen for me. 

This morning as I was doing my makeup, everything was going great, I was on time and knew where all of my uni books were (not something that happens regularly) and then I was up to the last stage of my makeup - The eyeliner.

This basically sums up the feels I had about my makeup this morning. 

We've all had those moments when one line is thicker so you go back to even our the other eye and it just keeps getting worse from there? That happened to me this morning, not once but TWICE! I wanted to just give up and get back into bed, I could tell it was going to be one of those days. 

After having a fantastic run with the rest of my makeup the last step was eyeliner, for some reason, I could NOT get it right today. 

I was almost certain I'd end up leaving the house looking like this. (I was planning on wearing a nude lip too) However I was determined to not let the eyeliner win. On the third attempt I finally accepted that this was as good as it was gonna get. 

Instead of the nude lip, I decided to wear a bold red one. I wanted to feel empowered and in a good mood to take charge of my day - makeup makes me feel like that sometimes. It also went better against my monochromatic outfit. 

As I was getting of the bus today to go to uni, a woman stopped me and complimented me on the lip colour, she said that it suited me very well and that she wished she could wear red lips like that, but she felt too old to wear it. I told her that she should wear it if it makes her happy and she smiled and said she will. Its the little things like this that can just turn your day around. Shortly after getting off the bus a fight broke out right in front of me and I thought I was going to die. (Nothing serious, just fist fighting, but still, two metres away from my face - stay classy Adelaide) So from this, I knew it was going to be a give / take kind of day. 

After sitting through gruelling study and feeling sick to the stomach about classes, I had the last few hours of the day and I swear to god, the only way it was bearable was because I have class with my bestie. Honestly if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have gone. We were working on some of the questions together when she kind of stopped me abruptly and said how nice my eyes/eye make up was. (I'd told her all about my eyeliner trouble today too). To get a compliment like that after having such a shitty makeup application day actually made me feel great. We joked around about compliments and blushing etc the rest of the lesson but it was just really nice. (Especially coming from her, she's beautiful and always has her face done to perfection).

Before I bombard you with selfies of todays face I'd like to show you just some of the aftermath of the removal process. 

There were about 4 more cotton tips but there were too far gone in the bin for me to even consider getting them, these were just on the top, honey, lord knows whats in that beauty bin…

I tried to expertly carve out the eyeliner. Didn't work. 

Tried to 'smoke' it out. Didn't work. (Its liquid liner, this shit isn't going anywhere)

Ended up taking all the eye makeup off and re-doing it. /sigh.

Here is a few pics of todays makeup. With and without glasses. I haven't touched up any of the products today, that lipstick survive from 8am to after 5pm without budging. This pic was taking around 3:30pm after a full day of talking and I scoffed down a cup of wedges so YAY I love Australis Velour lips.

Swatch & First Impressions

Models Prefer: NUDE 10 SHADES EYE SHADOW PALETTE

I've been doing a fair few first impression reviews lately, sorry if this isn't your favourite kind of thing, I'll be mixing it up again soon!

This product was a spur of the moment buy for me, I wanted something small and compact, mainly I wanted it for the mirror but the fact that there were 10 shades in there was a bonus. The size of the palette is about the size of my iPhone 4S. It is the perfect size for having in the side pocket of my handbag. 

On to the product, I'll start with the packaging. It comes in this (what I can only describe as a) dust jacket/sleeve that in my opinion is gorgeous. It reminds me a lot of the Urban Decay packaging boxes, nice and sleek. The 'cover' has the image of makeup powders with bold black writing, and then down the 'spine' of the 'sleeve' it is inverted, so the writing has the look of makeup. It may go un noticed to most but I think it is a really nice touch. 

When you take the actual palette out, it is a nice sleek black case, made of strong plastic, it feels sturdy, which is good, because this little guy is going to be fighting for life against my uni books and god knows what else is in my hand bag - I don't think I could ever reveal to the world just what my handbag looks like in one of those tag videos. 

The packaging of the palette itself is plane and simple which I think is perfect, there is no need to put on more bells and whistles when you can see it all on the little sleeve anyway. When you open the palette up, it reveals the mirror and the 10 shades, there is also one of those foam applicators that come standard with small palettes these days, I don't use them so I won't be fussed if I lose it. There is also a clear sheet of plastic with the names of the shades written on them. I will probably keep this as I like to know what shades I'm using and in my opinion it also protects the mirror and shadows somewhat. 

For some reason the shadow of the writing made it blurry when I uploaded the picture, so I'll just let you know what the colours are. 

Left to Right Top Row: Bare, Sand, Golden, Glisten, Earth

Left to Right Bottom Row: Bliss, Natural, Desert, Nature, Willow

You can see the mirror in all its glory, it is the perfect size. I love the mirrors in all Models Prefer palettes they are always just the right size. 

Here you can see the shades without the plastic overlay. There is a mix of warm and cool tones along with a mix of shimmer and matte shades. Out of the 10 shades there are 4 matte and 6 shimmer and the shimmer range from satin finish to intense almost metallic finish. The quality of these shades are great and I feel like they'd work with most skin tones. 

Now onto the swatches. I have NOT used any primer or anything like that to change the formulation of the shades, they're just one swipe against my skin (which is pretty pale). Obviously you can use an eyeshadow base or a product like fix plus by MAC to make the shadows more pigmented, but for some I don't think they need it.

I would say that the shimmer shades are better than the mattes, but thats only because matte shades are hard to get perfect no matter what brand is making them. However, the first colour 'Bare' is so pretty and shows up beautifully. This would look gorgeous as a brow highlight or an all over lid colour. I think with this palette you can achieve many looks and then easily put it in your bag to carry with you incase you should ever need any touch ups. 

One thing that I love about this is that there are suggested looks on both the sleeve protector thing and the palette itself. I love when companies give you some examples and step by step pictorials on how to use their product!

Over all for my first impression. I'm quite excited, I do love Models Prefer products and I always suggest them. I'll be using this product and hopefully posting a few looks with it so keep a look out for that.
