Dry Skin Saviours!

Neutrogena: Hydro Boost.

Like I need another reason to go into Priceline, right? I picked up these two moisturisers that I've been eyeing off for a while. I saw the 'Hydroboost' range when they first came into Priceline but told myself I had to wait until my bank account was ready. (Yay discipline) I picked up a day cream and a night cream. Those are my favourite products to use as they're low maintenance! However, there are two other products in the Hydroboost range that were sold out when I was shopping that I'm quite interested in getting. ANYWAY! Lets get to the product and why I like it!

Back Story: I have dry skin. I suffer from the occasional breakout (hormonal or bad food etc, but not a great deal) and some redness but other than that my skin is ok. Its just super dry. I combat this with moisturisers and they've been working in the past but I noticed that a lot of my skincare is actually by Neutrogena and I thought why not go pokemon on this and catch them all? So I decided to pick up these!

I love packaging of skin care! Its so cute, but chic and classy. The jars are simple and are really pretty shades of blue. They look lovely on my bathroom vanity. Inside each jar is a plastic cap/protector which I think is nice, it has a little 'handle' so you can easily remove it.

Water Gel: This is what I'm using as a 'daily moisturiser'.

"With innovative Progressive Release System, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel continuously releases moisture for a full 24 hours. Its light-weight gel cream formula with Hyaluronic acid and Olive extract doubles your moisture levels in just 1 hour, for soft supple skin with a healthy looking radiant glow."

So basically there are a lot of long words in that little passage but that is whats written on the box, but I gotta tell ya, they're on to something. It also says to 'apply generously and evenly over the face and neck daily after cleansing.' So thats what I do. I cleanse my face etc in the morning and then slap a good amount of this on. It soaks into the skin so nicely. It doesn't feel like there is a film on your face and it doesn't go sticky or tacky either. I honestly think it does double the moisture in the skin within the first hour and keeps working for a full 24 hours. It brings life back to the skin with a natural, healthy looking 'glow from within' vibe.

Night Concentrate: This is what I put on my face right before bed!

"As skin cells renew at night, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Night Concentrate is specially formulated with Progressive Release System to continuously release intense moisture as you sleep. Vitamin E enriched beads combined with Hyraluronic Acid, Olive Extract and Iconic Mineral complex help to enhance skin texture and visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines, so you wake up to amazingly hydrated, soft and supple skin."

Much like the day gel/cream this has a lot of big words and claims to do a lot. I don't really have 'fine lines' (that I'm aware of, if you see some, don't point them out, ignorance is bliss) but I do believe this would help with them! Once I put this on of a night time (this also says to apply nightly after cleansing) my skin soaks it up and loves it! It doesn't feel sticky or anything and it doesn't wipe off or transfer on to my pillows or anything which I'm happy about. The thing I care about the most is that when I wake up my skin feels so soft, smooth and plump? if thats a good adjective.

The product itself is really nice. The Water Gel (day cream/gel) has a blue look to it but it applies clear. It feels so nice so apply to the face. It feels cooling in a way, I can't wait until its summer to feel how refreshing this is.

The Night Concentrate is more creamy than the Water Gel, but the feel equally as smooth and nourishing to the skin. The small blue beads in the Night cream aren't hard at all, (like you'd find in some exfoliators) they melt into the skin without leaving any blue residue.

There is a smell to this product, it smells like faux cherry… like the medicine you had as a child or cherry starburst (thats what I think anyway) but it doesn't linger for long and I don't mind it so its not even an issue for me.

Both of these are: Dermatologist tested Allergy tested, Oil-free and Non-Comedogenic.

Final Thoughts: I've been using these for about a two months now and I'm loving them. I've had no reactions, my skin looks radiant, even under makeup - oh and makeup applies so beautifully over the top of the daily gel. The main problem area I had for makeup was my nose and my foundation applies so nicely over the top now. It feels nice to have a 'dewy/glowy' look to my skin when usually it was just dry and almost flakey. I think I might even start using 'Matte Foundations' and see how my skin looks/feels using the Hydroboost before application!

Thanks for reading! If you have dry skin and dry these products, let me know how you like them, or if you have any suggestions for your fave products leave them in the comments, I'd love to try them!

July Favourites

Right, so its August, that means its time for my July faves and can I get a small round of applause for getting this post up BEFORE the middle of the month! (Gold star for me)

Now, I only have a few but I really am loving them and I hope you'll like them too!

Moringa scent from 'The Body Shop'
Now, I have a few things in this scent and I've had them for ages, but to be honest, I have so many gels and soaps etc that I'd forgotten about this. It wasn't until I got a comment on my June Favourites video from a girl talking about her favourites did I remember I had this, and LOVE IT! The one pictured here is the 'Body Milk'. Every now and then when I get out of the shower or the bath I spray this all over and rub it in and my skin is feeling soft and smooth and scented like a beautiful floral goddess! I've been using this in anticipation for the warmer months to hurry up and arrive!

Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Scrub:
I've had this product for a long time and its always kind of been back and forth from my 'skin care - shower routine' I'd used it and not really realised what it does because I use so many other products. It wasn't until I was in the shower one day actually reading what it does did I think 'hmm, maybe I'll test that out'. On the back of the tube it says

  • Easily removes all traces of dirt, oil and makeup from deep within the pores.
  • Gentile microbeads help wash away dead skin cells, leaving skin soft and smooth.
  • Rinses completely clean, with no pore-clogging residue for refreshingly clean skin.
"Soap Free, Oil Free, Dermatologist tested, Non-comedogenic, Alcohol free".

I'd noticed that my skin was always smooth when I'd used it and that I'd not had a breakout from it, so I thought that was it. The thing I found most interesting was the first point, the removing of makeup, dirty and oil etc. Usually I just wash my face in the shower and then I do my full removal routine, but I thought why not start with this step instead? I got in the shower after a full day of uni and with my makeup still on, wet my hand and face and rubbed everything around making sure to get my mascara all runny and smudged. I looked like something from nightmarish movies that lives in the bottom of a well! I continued with my hair washing and let that sink into my face. I then put some of this on my hands and lathered it up and worked it around my face. To my surprise it got my makeup off! Even the mascara that was around by my ears! This is now a must use step in my makeup removal / skin care routine!

L'Oréal True Match Foundation:
I'm not sure if this has been a favourite before or not, but I've been using other foundations for almost a year now and always had this as a backup and I've finally gotten around to using it again and I don't know why I every stopped. I forgot how great this was! I'm in the shade R3-C3 Rose Beige. Its a little dark for me but I can make it work with setting powders. This applies beautifully with my Chi Chi makeup sponge. I'm so happy to be using this again!

Savvy Lip Stain - Pink Grapefruit:
I'm a lover of Savvy products and a lover of lip products so when I find a lip product that I like from a brand that I love at a SUPER affordable price, I can't not get it. This is a lip stain and it honestly feels like I'm putting highlighter on my face. The applicator isn't a brush its like a nib of a.. well, highlighter! its strange but amazing. The staying power is great! Relatively easy to reapply if need be, but my favourite thing about this is that it has great pigmentation but it feels like I'm not wearing anything on my lips! I sometimes forget I've got anything on until I catch my reflection! There are four colours so far in the range I've got 3 of them, I'll be picking up the 4th very soon!

ModelsPrefer Mineral Powder Soft Touch - Photo Ready:
To start with I didn't know what this powder even was and I'd been back and fourth swatching it for about 2 months (maybe more) I finally decided to pick it up and I'm so glad I did! I've been using it as a face powder to set my foundation and it gives the most flawless 'glow from within' finish. It works great as a way to blend between blush and highlight, its just such a pretty powder. I've been reading reviews of this and the other 3 in the range and they've been compared to some Hourglass products - I wouldn't know because I don't have them, but what I do know is that this is so pretty and I'll be going back to get some more!

For Fox Sake Mug:
Not beauty related (well maybe, I've been thinking of using it for my brushes, but I think I want to drink from it, maybe I'll pick up another one because it was only $2) but I LOVE foxes. I have another little fox statue that sits up on my vanity. ANYWAY! this mug is so adorable, the pun is cute, the pic is gorgeous and its something that I stare at everyday so I just had to include this in here! I think I will pick up another one for my makeup brushes!

My Vanity / Beautification Station:
I've been raving about this since I got it (thanks Ikea). It is so nice to be able to store all of my makeup in one place and have an area that is dedicated to beauty and makeup - be it for actually getting ready or for writing up my beauty posts or filming. I used to do it all at my actual desk where I study and do uni work and it got way too over crowded. So now when I have my laptop on my vanity its dedicated to "ProcrastiCaitlan" things, and when I'm seated at my desk its study time. Its a nice way to have things.
I have a post dedicated to my new vanity you can read that here, I'll also be doing a few more posts on the storage I use etc so keep posted for that!

So I'll leave you with one last pic of my Vanity, ahhh, isn't it just beautiful? Honestly, I'm in love with this furniture!

Thank you for reading! Leave me a comment about what your favourites have been or products that you just love and maybe I'll check them out!

Bath Time Routine

So I haven't really posted something like this before, but I strangely get a lot of questions asking me about my 'bath' or 'shower' routine. While for me, shower time is mainly spent washing my hair etc, bath time is the time I take for myself for a little pamper. Something I think everyone should do at least weekly. I try to make every Thursday my 'pamper' day, and usually shower during the week, but on the odd occasion that I do have a bath, I still like it to be nice.  So this is my normal, non pamper bath routine.

The first thing I do when I run a bath is put in some kind of bathbomb, or bath salts, even some good old fashioned bubble bath!

Bath times for me can be quite lengthy so I like to have something in the water to make it smell delicious, and sometimes even benefit my skin!

Tonight I used these bath-salts I picked up from priceline. There was a huge box filled with these and bars of soap, I might go back and stock up on them because they were only $3 for a packet and they packaging is absolutely adorable!

The scent that I got is 'Vanilla and Fig' and honestly, it smells gorgeous. It comes with a little scoop. I put two scoops into my bath tonight and it made it smell delicious. The pack says for you to let it dissolve in the water before you get in, so that's what I did. Honestly, if you're friends with me, you might end up getting this for a birthday gift (Sarah B, I'm thinking of you) (; or maybe even a christmas thing. These make great stocking stuffers (yes, I'm thinking about christmas already)  so get on down and snatch them up while you can! I will be.

While that is dissolving in the bath, I like to put on a face mask. This is one for minimising pores. It smells like strawberry and yarrow. It feels so good on the skin. I have a few masks I interchange but this is my favourite for this week.

I put this on and then get into the bath, It says to leave on for 10ish minutes, I leave it on for the majority of the bath time, to make sure its all dry on my face.

Without further ado I can't go any longer without music. I'll just flick through my music on my phone and play that. I'm currently enjoying the new U2 album that magically showed up on my (and everyone else's) iPhone. I listened to some of that tonight, was quite enjoyable.

Its at this point I'll usually let some water out and put in some more hot water. Does anyone else do that? I can't stand sitting in lukewarm water. It makes me feel un clean like I have to start the whole process over again.

Now that the tunes are on, the face mask is setting and the bath is yet again hot, I can start the exfoliating section of the night can begin.

I have been loving the Sanctuary Spa Salt Body Scrub. I've mentioned it in my August favourites so go ahead and read that if you're interested in knowing about this product. It is SO GOOD! Or if you don't want to read watch it HERE HERE HERE HERE!  I highly recommend this product if you're looking for a new exfoliator. I scrub it into my skin, all over my body then let the oils sink in and enjoy the bath!
Now its been long enough, its time to take off my face mask. Usually I'd do it with warm water and a cloth, but because I am already in the bath, I use this. This is a gentle exfoliator from Olay Regenerist. I put it on the slower setting wet the brush and then remove the mask. Once that is done, I then use the cleanser and finish off the exfoliation process. It seems like a lot of work and harsh exfoliants, but honestly the brush head is so soft I use it every day and only for about 1 or 2 minutes in total. I can say, my skin is looking so much nicer since using this.

This is the last step of the in bath routine. Now I let the water out, dry myself off and finish off the simple routine. This is where it turns into more of my nightly routine. But I'll include it anyway.

Now that my face is all exfoliated and feeling quite smooth, I like to put some toner on a cotton pad and wipe it over my face. I use this to balance my face out and to remove any dead skin or mask residue that might still be on my face. I don't want my pores getting clogged back up again after all this work. This is an alcohol-fee toner by Neutrogena and it is for sensitive skin. Which I have. I love this, because it IS alcohol free it doesn't burn when it gets near my eye, I can wipe this over my eyelid and not have any dramas. Where as with other, my eyes start watering once I open the cap.

The last step is a moisturising night cream. I am loving this one by Nivea at the moment, It is for dry and sensitive skin, which I most defiantly have. It is such a nice thick consistency, but doesn't feel heavy, and it has quite a nice fresh smell. I put this on five or so minutes before going to bed. Let it sink into my face and then hop into bed.

In the morning I use the day cream by Nivea. Its great, I wake up, wash my face, put it on then go have breakfast, by the time I've finished, it's time for makeup, but I'll leave that for another post.

Let me know if you have a certain bath time routine or any favourite bath products. I'd love to hear them.
