Daily Face + Eyeliner Woes

Two things you should know:

Eyeliner will never be perfect on both eyes - this is a fact we have to live with

A compliment can change you entire day

For some reason, Tuesdays just aren't my day. Some people have issues with Monday, but for me its Tuesday that just doesn't happen for me. 

This morning as I was doing my makeup, everything was going great, I was on time and knew where all of my uni books were (not something that happens regularly) and then I was up to the last stage of my makeup - The eyeliner.

This basically sums up the feels I had about my makeup this morning. 

We've all had those moments when one line is thicker so you go back to even our the other eye and it just keeps getting worse from there? That happened to me this morning, not once but TWICE! I wanted to just give up and get back into bed, I could tell it was going to be one of those days. 

After having a fantastic run with the rest of my makeup the last step was eyeliner, for some reason, I could NOT get it right today. 

I was almost certain I'd end up leaving the house looking like this. (I was planning on wearing a nude lip too) However I was determined to not let the eyeliner win. On the third attempt I finally accepted that this was as good as it was gonna get. 

Instead of the nude lip, I decided to wear a bold red one. I wanted to feel empowered and in a good mood to take charge of my day - makeup makes me feel like that sometimes. It also went better against my monochromatic outfit. 

As I was getting of the bus today to go to uni, a woman stopped me and complimented me on the lip colour, she said that it suited me very well and that she wished she could wear red lips like that, but she felt too old to wear it. I told her that she should wear it if it makes her happy and she smiled and said she will. Its the little things like this that can just turn your day around. Shortly after getting off the bus a fight broke out right in front of me and I thought I was going to die. (Nothing serious, just fist fighting, but still, two metres away from my face - stay classy Adelaide) So from this, I knew it was going to be a give / take kind of day. 

After sitting through gruelling study and feeling sick to the stomach about classes, I had the last few hours of the day and I swear to god, the only way it was bearable was because I have class with my bestie. Honestly if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have gone. We were working on some of the questions together when she kind of stopped me abruptly and said how nice my eyes/eye make up was. (I'd told her all about my eyeliner trouble today too). To get a compliment like that after having such a shitty makeup application day actually made me feel great. We joked around about compliments and blushing etc the rest of the lesson but it was just really nice. (Especially coming from her, she's beautiful and always has her face done to perfection).

Before I bombard you with selfies of todays face I'd like to show you just some of the aftermath of the removal process. 

There were about 4 more cotton tips but there were too far gone in the bin for me to even consider getting them, these were just on the top, honey, lord knows whats in that beauty bin…

I tried to expertly carve out the eyeliner. Didn't work. 

Tried to 'smoke' it out. Didn't work. (Its liquid liner, this shit isn't going anywhere)

Ended up taking all the eye makeup off and re-doing it. /sigh.

Here is a few pics of todays makeup. With and without glasses. I haven't touched up any of the products today, that lipstick survive from 8am to after 5pm without budging. This pic was taking around 3:30pm after a full day of talking and I scoffed down a cup of wedges so YAY I love Australis Velour lips.

March Favourites

Products that I've used and loved in the month of March

Now if you've been reading my posts you'll know that I did some travelling during March. Some of these products are what I took with me and used and loved and continued to use when I returned, and some are old favourites that I've fallen back in love with, whilst some are brand new purchases that I've had an instant obsession with. Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation.  I took this foundation away with me purely because it had plastic packaging and no pump that could be broken or cause leaking. I'm glad I did. I really like this foundation. It has a light to medium coverage that is easily build-able. I have the colour - 081 Fair Ivory - and to be honest it is a little light for me (not something I encounter frequently) however it matches my neck and jawline really well, its just the centre of my face where it is naturally tanned that it looks a bit pale, however with a setting powder foundation in my skin tone it is easily fixed and gives off a flawless finish. This foundation can be a bit drying (I'm guessing because it is a matte finish) but for those of you with oily skin, you might like this one, my face is like the Simpson desert so I usually have a moisturiser on underneath it and with that I don't have a problem. There seemed to be an ok colour range. If you're in the market for a new matte foundation, you might want to give this a go. 

Maybelline New York: Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quad: 05 Give Me Gold. 

I have had this product (and a few like it) for a few years and this is one that I've repurchased many times because I love it so much and I'm always out to recommend it. 

If you watch the video of my favourites, you'll see how I did my makeup using just this quad and the brush. 

The shadows blend well, there is some fall out but if you're careful then there won't be any. The shades in this quad are all shimmer / glitter shades. The orange gold colour reminds me a lot of the colour 'Halfbaked' by Urban Decay.

Real Techniques: Domed Shadow Brush

I've used this brush like I would any other makeup brush, however when I went away this was the only eye brush I took with me and it did the job! It didn't matter if I was pressing shadows onto my eyelid or blending them into my crease, this brush did it all. The brush is soft, yet dense so it really packs the colour onto the lid. The shape of it makes it great for getting into the crease. 

Australis Velourlips: Doo-Bai

It is no secret that these lip products are one of my favourites ever. If you've read or seen my Priceline haul post/video you'll know that I have instant love for this - one of the new shades in the collection. Basically I've been wearing it since I purchased it. I think it is the perfect shade for Autumn. The formula glides onto the lip effortlessly and dries to a matte finish almost instantly. They're long wearing and have great colour payoff. There is an almost berry scent to all of these, but I don't find it unpleasant, I actually quite like it. If you wear this lip product you'll be at ease the whole day not needing to worry about reapplying. I recommend this entire range but especially this colour. 

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength: Save the Date

I think I've mentioned this product on my blog before - but I don't think its been in a favourite. This is another one of the products I've fallen back in love with because it is finally seasonally appropriate to wear it again! Please excuse the state of my nails, I've been wearing this for two weeks now and only now has it started to show signs of wear and tear. The formula is fantastic you could even get away with just one coat, the colour payoff is that good. 

The finish to this polish is beautiful. The metallic shimmer catches the light and I am often asked what polish I'm wearing. I love Sally Hansen polishes and I'm excited to keep wearing this in Autumn!

Beauty News

New Products!

There are some new products coming to Australia and I'm so thrilled and full of excitement I just had to post about it. Are you excited about this as much as I am? Let me know! 

Australis

I'm sure you'll know by now my absolute adoration to Australis Cosmetics, and in particular the VelourLips range. So when I found out there were releasing five new shades into the range, I had to tell somebody. I was trawling the A/C instagram feed when I stumbled upon the first release, then as I kept my eyes peeled I saw that they're are having five new shades to be released early Feb. To say I am keen is a massive understatement. I own all but two of the original VelourLips line and will be getting the new shades as soon as I can. **Added bonus there is a 30% off Australis Cosmetics at Priceline until the 11th of Feb 2015**

I'm so happy with these new shades and I think the darker shades are going to be VERY popular coming into the cooler months! I am so excited for 'DOO-BAI'! Not only is the colouring amazing. I can just imagine it on my lips already, but Dubai is a special place to me it will bring back memories every time I wear it. The same goes with 'SHANG-HI' I love dark berry lips for the colder months and I am going to be traveling through Shang-hai next month so yet again they'll bring on some memories.

This whole collection is amazing, I love that the shades are named after places because it reminds me of all the places I've been able to travel.

Memory lane aside, I can not wait to get my hands on these. I already know I won't be disappointed.

Urban Decay comes to AUSTRALIA!

MECCA MAXIMA is going to be stocking the brand Urban Decay! I am so excited! Finally Australia is starting to get more and more brands. The price - I'm going to assume - will be around the same as Nars etc, it is a higher end brand so one expects to pay more, but there is no way we will be paying anything near the American prices, SephoraAus shot that hope out of the sky when they expect people to pay $60.00 for the Becca Skin Perfecters. I'll make a whole other post about price inflation another time. Lets not dwell on sad, lets get excited for Urban Decay!

I know for a fact the Naked pallets will be in high demand, and I'm glad I already have mine, I feel a slight sense of accomplishment being an Australian and having the 3 Naked Pallets (granted, I did buy them when I was overseas (and one was a gift - still purchased overseas) but I'm more excited about the other products and pallets that will be up for grabs. Urban Decay have some of my favourite eyeliners long lasting and great colours. I really hope MECCA start bringing in some other brands too or at least I hope Australia starts getting in different brands, they don't have to be high end, I'd love it if I could get Milani products from my local Priceline.

The release date for UD in MECCA stores is Friday 27th of March

November Favourites!

Products I loved in the month of November!

So December is here and holidays season is in full swing! The weather is heating up, the bbq's are coming out and its time to dust of the swimsuit because a hot summer Christmas is on its way!

FACE

First cab off the rank is this stuff! I'm sure you've heard of products like this (if not this one) before. This is the best makeup remover I've ever used! This doesn't break me out, it takes all my makeup off - including mascara and liquid eyeliner, without rubbing hard at my eyes. I have nothing bad to say about this product. Also a bit of a bonus is that this makes a really great brush cleaner. The reason cleansing waters are so great is because the active ingredient is (obviously) like that of makeup remover wipes etc but this chemicals in this product are in their whole form, they're not broken down, hence their more efficient. The molecules cling to the makeup and when you wipe down your face, they take the makeup with them. Its  more concentrated. Bottom line - Buy this. You won't be sorry. 

LIPS

My second favourite for the month is one of the 'Velourlips - matte lip cream' by 'Australis' this one in particular is in the shade 'MI-A-MEE'. Now I've talked about this product a heap and they're honestly so great. I'm really loving the whole 'liquid lipstick' 'trend' or whatever it is. There are some absolutely great products and this is one of them. This one is a really nice watermelon colour and it is surprisingly wearable! It makes me think of tropical punch and sunbeds by the pool. Its the perfect colour for summer!

EYES

Well here's a surprise! (not) I've raved about this bad boy ever since I got it and I've used it so much this past month! I've done the 'suggested' looks, and even mixed and matched my some of my own. I won't go into too much detail on this product because all you have to do is scroll down and you'll see how much I love this palette and the other 'Models Prefer' palettes. This palette has some really good shades for some nice shimmery 'holiday' looks. This has been my 'go-to' palette this month, I haven't really been reaching for anything else and it'll come with me when I travel next week! The packaging is sturdy and the mirror is amazing! good size and good quality! To say I love this product is an understatement - I'd go more along the lines of 'obsessed with!'

HAIR

And last but not least is a spray - leave in conditioner by schwartzkopf. I've been on the market for a good leave in conditioner for a long time now and I just haven't found any that really interest me. Then I stumbled upon this one. It says on the packaging "Voluptuous volume & express detangling" and that is honestly all I was after (well mainly the detangling - the added volume is an added plus!) it says for 'Fine, Flat Hair' my hair is quite very fine, and there is also a lot of it, which makes it quite heavy and it can tend to be quite flat - but honestly it isn't one of my main concerns when it comes to my hair. My main concerns are dryness, breakage and tangles. Because my hair is so long and fine/thin it tangles SO easily. Not a day goes by when I don't spend at least 20minutes just trying to detangle my hair - let along style. With this product, it cuts the brushing time down by half. I spray it directly in the trouble area - and then some directly on the ends of my hair then some generally all over my head (I don't use this product sparingly and it lasts quite a while) wait a few minutes and then start to brush the product through my hair and the tangles and they just detangle so much easier. I'm glad this particular product has Biotin because that is also good for your hair. If you're in the market for a leave in conditioner (that leaves your hair smelling nice too) I'd give this one a go. It was quite affordable and I expect at least three months usage out of this. (I'll let you know how long it lasts)

Makeup Must-haves

Australis Cosmetics: Velourlips Matte Lip Cream.

Now, I've done a post comparing this product to some other matte lip creams on the market (Savvy and Bourjois) and I've also done a little mention of them in my latest 'Priceline Haul' and my love for this product has only grown! When I first saw this on the market there were only five or so shades, and now there are at least 10 (with a few limited edition - I'm not terribly interested in them - but thats not to say they're not a bad product). I currently own eight of the 10 (the only ones I don't yet own are two nude shades) shades and in this post I'll just be going through them including swatches.

These retail for AUD$9.95 at Priceline stores which I think its a pretty good price (BECAUSE EVERYTHING IN AUSTRALIA IS OVER PRICED! #rant)

Even if you don't like all the shades or think they won't suit you, you are bound to find at LEAST one you like. Now me, I don't think they all suit me, but at the same time, I don't care because I like the colours they come in and if they're worn right - I guess they don't look terrible? - in my opinion some of the pinks don't suit my skin tone - but I'll wear them anyway if they go with what I'm wearing etc or the rest of my makeup. 

I not only match my lip colour to the rest of the makeup - but I also decide if I like it if it compliments my other features two of the main things I look for in a lip colour is how it looks against my skin tone and also how it reacts to my eye colour. My eyes are a chocolate brown, my hair is brown and my skin is quite fair, so I want the lip colour to compliment all of that and make my other features stand out. 

I'll now go through my opinion of the swatches I've so kindly done for you all. (my lips, man - so sore after all of this)

Now as you should already know - the general rule of makeup is 'choose one'. Statement eyes or Statement lips. Not both (unless the balance is flawless) I'm wearing a neutral eye look so the statement of course is the lips. NOW on to my swatch opinions. 

1. NY-CEE: This is a beautiful 'festive' red. Its more of a bright red with 'orange' undertones - but for me it just reminds me of Christmas. 
2. MAL-I-BOO: A bright bubblegum pink. My opinion of 'Barbie Pink'. I honestly didn't think this colour would suit me at all - and maybe it doesn't but don't disregard it. It brings warmth to the face. 
3. TOK-I-O: To me - this colour reminds me of 'Cadbury' chocolate packaging and with my brown eyes I love wearing this colour. It is perfect for the colder months too where you want a pop of colour on what might be a very 'black on black' outfit. 
4. RIO-D: I honestly thought I would wear this the least. But it is such a nice neon orange. (something I thought I'd never say) it goes perfectly with blue in the outfit or blue nails (sky blue) and again, it looks nice against my eye colour. I've gotten a lot of compliments when I've worn this colour. 
5. PAR-EE: This is so close to my skin colour and I love it. Its like a my lips but better matte. Because it blends against my skin tone so well, my cheeks seem more flushed and my eyes seem brighter. To me this is a WIN WIN situation!
6. MI-A-MEE: This colour reminds me of watermelon. I didn't think I'd like it but I find myself drawn to it. I don't think I own many lip colours in this shade. This is one of the newer purchases so I'm keen to start wearing it more in spring and summer.
7. HO-CHEE-MIN: I think this is the colour that suits me the least. I think (and this never happens) I might be too tan for this shade (at the moment) It looks like a very natural pink flush and against a darker complexion it seems a bit 'hoochie'. That is my opinion. It won't stop me from wearing it though.
8. LUN-DUN: I wore this colour out to dinner tonight and got quite a few compliments. It is a dusty cool tone pink that can go with a range of different outfits. This was the first time I've worn it out - and I must say I'm a fan.

I've worn all of these shades for at least one whole day (the first six I've worn multiple times) and I have to tell you, I don't need to re-apply. (unless I'm making a mess of myself eating) They stay on all day through food, talking, drinking - and once you've put them on and they dry - they take some time getting off. (Perfect for date night (; )

There wasn't really much to this post except for me telling you how much I love these products. Australis has some amazing stuff out and its not just these products, I own a number of different products by this brand and love them all.

Bourjois, Australis and Savvy Review

Mad about Mattes!

I am a huge fan of matte finish lip products and when I noticed a heap of them on the market lately, I'm not gonna lie, I think my bank account died a little inside. 

There are 3 brands that I've had my eye on for a while: 

Bourjois: I've been a fan of their products and their liquid eyeliner is my all time favourite.

Australis: I've used their products a lot, and I like them, I'm becoming even more of a fan of their lip products, but I've never tried anything from this range before.

Savvy: I've never used anything from this brand before, but with a price tag of under $10, I'm not gonna say no.

I have 3 products from each line and have worn at least one from each line for a full day plus I've swatched all products. Lets get into it!

Bourjois:

 Rouge Edition Velvet

 Right off the bat, I have to say that the packaging is really nice, its simple elegant and like all things French, its a little bit chic. However, one thing I will say, is the safety seal that each product is individually wrapped in was an absolute disaster to remove. Resulting in flakey plastic stuck to the packaging making it a bit of an eye sore. I know its not that big of a deal. But its something I noticed and thought you all should know. Prepare for battle when opening these badboys.

The colours (Left to Right) Grand Cru, Olé Flamingo and Pink Pong

 The sales pitch:

 "Its soft, melting texture glides on to the lips and turns into a matt, velvety and incredibly light colour. Lips are left smooth and soft as velvet.
Enriched with evanescent oils, it’s incredibly sensuous formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading lips."

Texture/Consistency: Its true, they are incredibly soft and it does just glide right on. Lips do feel smooth without feeling 'gloopy'. Also true that your lips don't feel dry. This is a big win in my book.

Colour/Pigment: I was so happy with 2 out of 3 of the purchases. The colours are strong and vibrant (the photos don't do them justice) But the colour 'Grand Cru' just doesn't cut it. I don't know what went wrong with this one but it is an epic disappointment.

Smell: No aroma. Smells like your average lip product.

Application: Easy. Like I said before, product just glides on, the applicator makes thing simple and mess free.

Wear and Tear: When I wore it, It lasted the whole day, I don't think I touched up and I'm sure I went out for lunch whilst wearing it. It honestly feels like you're not wearing anything, which is good and bad I think. I like knowing something is on my face before I accidentally wipe my mouth. But other than that. It is a great product. 

Price: This is one of the only downsides, of the products on review today this one is the priciest by far, the only reason I bout the three (let alone one) is because they are currently on sale. I got them for $10 each instead of the usual price of $25. Honestly they are good, but there are a lot more products out there that do the same thing or better for the same price or cheaper. Just keep that in mind. But if you see them on sale, snag them up! But keep in mind Grand Cru is a bit disappointing.

  Australis:

 Velourlips Matte Lip Cream

I love a lot of Australis' lip products and I was quite excited to give these a try.

Again with packaging, these have really cute packaging (and you don't have to deal with a demonic safety seal, this one is simple to remove).

This range of lip product has cute names that are 'City' themed. When I see something like that its almost an instant purchase for me. Then I have to reason with myself, but I'm glad I purchased this.  
Left to Right the colours are: Ny-cee, Tok-i-o and Ma-li-boo

The sales pitch:

"Highly pigmented lips are the look of the moment, and this lip cream takes it to the next level with its beautiful matte finish! The creamy long-wear formula glides on easily with its doe foot applicator, finishing to a velvety matte look with intense, full coverage colour payoff. Perfect for when you want lasting, matte colour that moves with your lips without flaking."

 Texture/Consistency: Quite a lot thicker than the Bourjois ones, but its not that bad. I didn't find them as moisturising, but thats not saying they were like sandpaper to put on. They are a nice smooth consistency. But we wary, this product does 'dry' quite quick, so any mistakes better be removed quickly. They do feel a bit dry throughout the day, but nothing that is too uncomfortable or a moisturising clear lipgloss or balm cant fix.

Colour/Pigment: Amazing colour and pigment. They're more vibrant in person, the photos (again) just don't seem to cut it.

Smell: I'm not sure if it is meant to be this way, or not, but they have a kind of Cherry smell to them. I find it quite pleasant.

Application: Super easy, glide on smoothly. They do dry quick.

Wear and Tear: This product is a solid decision if you don't intent on changing lippy throughout the say. If you go with one of these, you've made a commitment. They stayed on the whole day, I was eating, drinking, talking and it stayed true to the sales pitch and "moved with my lips without flaking".

Price: These beauties are $9.99! And the pros outweigh the cons by a landslide. If the other colours in the range suited my skin tone I would buy them. (I might just do it anyway to complete the set)

Each shade is a delightful cherry scented pop of colour!

 Savvy:

Ultra Matte Lip Colour

Last but not least, we have Savvy. A brand I've never used but since buying these I've bought more of their products!. 

 Packaging! I love the frosted glass packaging for this product. Its similar to the Australis packaging, but the frosted glass makes it (in my opinion) stand out from other lip products in the same shape.

The theme for the names for these products seem to be 'Hollywood' themed the colours here (Left to Right) are:
Miss Monroe (personal favourite)
Icon
Rodeo Drive
 

Texture/Consistency: Similar to the Australis products, however these ones are a bit more dryer and will flake (it takes the whole day with no touch ups to get to that stage though)

Colour/Pigment: I'm in love with 'Miss Monroe'. This colour is what the Bourjois' 'Grand Cru' should have been. The other two colours are fully pigmented and give great coverage.

Smell: Not really any smell.

Application: Just like the others, quite easy. This also dry's quickly, it isn't moisturising like Bourjois is, and it does feel quite dry and a little bit sticky during the day, but thats only if you press your lips together quite hard, so don't do that and you should be fine.

Wear and Tear: Just like Australis this is a commitment. But maybe up a level. Its almost an ordeal to get this off if you've made a mistake, so make sure you know what you're doing. This product will stay all day and night with minimal attention required.

Price: I'm fairly sure this product was $7.99, and that is a bargain. For that price, I can say who cares about a slightly dry feeling when the pay off of colour is so great.

I would recommend all products to anyone who was interested but keep in mind, Bourjois is pricier and 'Grand Cru' is a let down (unless you really put the effort into application). But for the price, you get moisture. Australis is pleasant and with the odd cherry smell its just the 'cherry on top' (BAD PUN) It is cheaper than Bourjois, and is a little drying, but doesn't flake. The colours are all great too. 

The Savvy products I would also recommend. They are more drying than the other two and do tend to flake, but it took me a whole day of wear and tear for it to start flaking so I think for $8. you're getting your moneys worth. Also, Miss Monroe is a gorgeous vintage deep red colour true to the name and is what Grand Cru should have been. 

A WORD OF ADVICE: For the more drying lip products, put a moisturising lip balm on before application and throughout the day if needed. It does so much difference.
