Daily Face + Eyeliner Woes

Two things you should know:
Eyeliner will never be perfect on both eyes - this is a fact we have to live with
A compliment can change you entire day

For some reason, Tuesdays just aren't my day. Some people have issues with Monday, but for me its Tuesday that just doesn't happen for me.

This morning as I was doing my makeup, everything was going great, I was on time and knew where all of my uni books were (not something that happens regularly) and then I was up to the last stage of my makeup - The eyeliner.

This basically sums up the feels I had about my makeup this morning.
We've all had those moments when one line is thicker so you go back to even our the other eye and it just keeps getting worse from there? That happened to me this morning, not once but TWICE! I wanted to just give up and get back into bed, I could tell it was going to be one of those days.

After having a fantastic run with the rest of my makeup the last step was eyeliner, for some reason, I could NOT get it right today.

I was almost certain I'd end up leaving the house looking like this. (I was planning on wearing a nude lip too) However I was determined to not let the eyeliner win. On the third attempt I finally accepted that this was as good as it was gonna get.

Instead of the nude lip, I decided to wear a bold red one. I wanted to feel empowered and in a good mood to take charge of my day - makeup makes me feel like that sometimes. It also went better against my monochromatic outfit.

As I was getting of the bus today to go to uni, a woman stopped me and complimented me on the lip colour, she said that it suited me very well and that she wished she could wear red lips like that, but she felt too old to wear it. I told her that she should wear it if it makes her happy and she smiled and said she will. Its the little things like this that can just turn your day around. Shortly after getting off the bus a fight broke out right in front of me and I thought I was going to die. (Nothing serious, just fist fighting, but still, two metres away from my face - stay classy Adelaide) So from this, I knew it was going to be a give / take kind of day.

After sitting through gruelling study and feeling sick to the stomach about classes, I had the last few hours of the day and I swear to god, the only way it was bearable was because I have class with my bestie. Honestly if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have gone. We were working on some of the questions together when she kind of stopped me abruptly and said how nice my eyes/eye make up was. (I'd told her all about my eyeliner trouble today too). To get a compliment like that after having such a shitty makeup application day actually made me feel great. We joked around about compliments and blushing etc the rest of the lesson but it was just really nice. (Especially coming from her, she's beautiful and always has her face done to perfection).

Before I bombard you with selfies of todays face I'd like to show you just some of the aftermath of the removal process.

There were about 4 more cotton tips but there were too far gone in the bin for me to even consider getting them, these were just on the top, honey, lord knows whats in that beauty bin…

I tried to expertly carve out the eyeliner. Didn't work.
Tried to 'smoke' it out. Didn't work. (Its liquid liner, this shit isn't going anywhere)
Ended up taking all the eye makeup off and re-doing it. /sigh.

Here is a few pics of todays makeup. With and without glasses. I haven't touched up any of the products today, that lipstick survive from 8am to after 5pm without budging. This pic was taking around 3:30pm after a full day of talking and I scoffed down a cup of wedges so YAY I love Australis Velour lips.

And now on to a look at the products I used today.

Swatch & First Impressions

Models Prefer: NUDE 10 SHADES EYE SHADOW PALETTE

I've been doing a fair few first impression reviews lately, sorry if this isn't your favourite kind of thing, I'll be mixing it up again soon!

This product was a spur of the moment buy for me, I wanted something small and compact, mainly I wanted it for the mirror but the fact that there were 10 shades in there was a bonus. The size of the palette is about the size of my iPhone 4S. It is the perfect size for having in the side pocket of my handbag.

On to the product, I'll start with the packaging. It comes in this (what I can only describe as a) dust jacket/sleeve that in my opinion is gorgeous. It reminds me a lot of the Urban Decay packaging boxes, nice and sleek. The 'cover' has the image of makeup powders with bold black writing, and then down the 'spine' of the 'sleeve' it is inverted, so the writing has the look of makeup. It may go un noticed to most but I think it is a really nice touch.

When you take the actual palette out, it is a nice sleek black case, made of strong plastic, it feels sturdy, which is good, because this little guy is going to be fighting for life against my uni books and god knows what else is in my hand bag - I don't think I could ever reveal to the world just what my handbag looks like in one of those tag videos.

The packaging of the palette itself is plane and simple which I think is perfect, there is no need to put on more bells and whistles when you can see it all on the little sleeve anyway. When you open the palette up, it reveals the mirror and the 10 shades, there is also one of those foam applicators that come standard with small palettes these days, I don't use them so I won't be fussed if I lose it. There is also a clear sheet of plastic with the names of the shades written on them. I will probably keep this as I like to know what shades I'm using and in my opinion it also protects the mirror and shadows somewhat.

For some reason the shadow of the writing made it blurry when I uploaded the picture, so I'll just let you know what the colours are.

Left to Right Top Row: Bare, Sand, Golden, Glisten, Earth
Left to Right Bottom Row: Bliss, Natural, Desert, Nature, Willow

You can see the mirror in all its glory, it is the perfect size. I love the mirrors in all Models Prefer palettes they are always just the right size.

Here you can see the shades without the plastic overlay. There is a mix of warm and cool tones along with a mix of shimmer and matte shades. Out of the 10 shades there are 4 matte and 6 shimmer and the shimmer range from satin finish to intense almost metallic finish. The quality of these shades are great and I feel like they'd work with most skin tones.

Now onto the swatches. I have NOT used any primer or anything like that to change the formulation of the shades, they're just one swipe against my skin (which is pretty pale). Obviously you can use an eyeshadow base or a product like fix plus by MAC to make the shadows more pigmented, but for some I don't think they need it.

Swatches

Bare, Sand, golden, Glisten, Earth                                                 Bliss, Natural, Desert, Nature, Willow

I would say that the shimmer shades are better than the mattes, but thats only because matte shades are hard to get perfect no matter what brand is making them. However, the first colour 'Bare' is so pretty and shows up beautifully. This would look gorgeous as a brow highlight or an all over lid colour. I think with this palette you can achieve many looks and then easily put it in your bag to carry with you incase you should ever need any touch ups.

One thing that I love about this is that there are suggested looks on both the sleeve protector thing and the palette itself. I love when companies give you some examples and step by step pictorials on how to use their product!

Over all for my first impression. I'm quite excited, I do love Models Prefer products and I always suggest them. I'll be using this product and hopefully posting a few looks with it so keep a look out for that.

First Impression Review - NYX Wicked Lipsticks (half set)

Wearable Weirdness?

I like to experiment with beauty and makeup, I'm sure a lot of people do. When I first saw the new NYX Wicked Lipsticks I knew I wanted them in my life, I swatched them and fell in love with the colours, but I also thought that some of these aren't going to be for everyday use. Since then, I've purchased 6 of the 12 shades and I'll be sharing with you my thoughts along with swatches.

On the NYX Cosmetics website you can see these beautiful shades along with product description. The website says "Take a walk on the wicked side with our jewel-toned lippies available in 12 shimmering shades. Velvety smooth with a dazzling metallic finish, these richly pigmented lipsticks will leave your lips with the ultimate spellbinding look."

No doubt about it, the colours are unique and magical and I think I will try to get some good use out of them.

The packaging for these lippies is pretty standard, however I like the clear cutout where you can see the actual product colour. I like how a lot more companies are doing this now instead of having a sticker of what the colour is supposed to be but looks nothing like. When the lippies are all lined up next to one another, it does look quite lovely to be able to see the different metallic jewel shades lined up nicely.

OK, onto the swatches, now as I said, I only have 6 of the 12 shades available, I'll probably be going out and getting the other 6 as soon as I can find them. (Honestly the makeup section in my Target is appalling)

Shade: 02 - Scandalous
NYX Says: A teal with silver shimmer.
I say: Nyx is pretty spot on with the description, I don't think this is as 'jewel toned' and metallic as some of the others, but the colour pay off is pretty good. I can see some people loving this shade as its one of the colours of one of the major sports teams here in Adelaide. Bonnie, Lucy - I'm looking at you. #Carnthepear

I think if this was to be wearable I'd save it for spring and summer - I don't know why, but I think it'd suit the warmer months more.

Shade: 04 - Wrath
NYX Says: Metallic copper with an orange undertone
I say: Again, I think Nyx was spot on again, its nor necessarily a warm or cool toned shade, I think its a pretty wearable neutral.

I have a lipstick that is similar to this that I wear all the time and I love it, I think this would be one of the easiest to wear. I will do a look using this lipstick and probably start wearing it on the daily.

I think this colour would suit every skin tone also, not all the shades in this line would suit everyone, but I believe this one would.

Shade: 05 - Sinful
NYX Says: Deep Cobalt blue with silver pearl
I Say: I'm not quite sure what 'silver pearl' is, but I don't really see it so much in this lipstick once it is on the lips, the bullet of product looks very 'pearly' however, it isn't transferred so well onto the lips, which in my opinion make it easier to wear. It still has a nice metallic sheen in some light, but for the most part, it has a nice cream finish.

I love this shade and want to start to incorporate it into daily use - it is intense, but just remember a few years ago when wearing purple was un speakable and now look at it, purple is everywhere and one of my favourite shades to wear. I want this colour to take off!

Shade: 06 - Stone Cold
NYX Says: Metallic Silver.
I Say: ehh… This shade is the most sheer out of them all (the ones that I have). It took me so much work to even get that much on my lips, I would say it is more white than silver but thats neither here nor there. It seems like the more product you try and wipe on, the more of it just wipes off. It is a shame because this is a really pretty shade. Probably not something that I'd wear on the daily, but I'd try and find a way to use it. (I will anyway but this one takes some work)

Maybe using a lip brush and applying it over the top of some shades might be a good way to use it. I'll keep you posted.

Shade: 07 - Immortal
NYX Says: Bright purple with purple shimmer.
I Say: Pretty spot on. It leaves a nice pearly shimmer on the lips that isn't over the top. Its a lovely dark purple shade.

The colour pay off is ok, but this shade is buildable unlike 'Stone Cold' you can apply more over the top and it wont smear off.

I feel like this is one of the more wearable shades, and that this will be a good transition shade into finally wearing the deep blues in the collection.

Shade: 12 - Envy
NYX Says: Royal metallic blue with silver shimmer.
I Say: Correct. Again they're pretty on point with the description. This shade does go on a bit sheer so you will need to build it up, but it is easy to do.

This shade is a cross between 'Sinful' and 'Immortal' (in my opinion).

It has a nice pearly shimmer on the lips but isn't glittery or gritty.

Reflections:
These lipsticks are very easy to apply, they're firm in the packaging which means when applying pressure to really pack on the colour you're not worried about the bullet snapping off (as much - lets be real the fear is always there). The packaging has a nice satisfactory click when you twist the lipstick down, it locks into place so you can apply it without it twisting back into the tube. Its the little things like this that really take a product from good to great.

While yes, the colours might not be everyones cup of tea, I can certainly see some people rocking some of these shades, even if its not on the daily, these will go great with themed looks or parties etc. I plan on wearing some on the daily though.

Even though these colours are intense, the formula isn't drying at all and they wear SUPER easy to take off, no scrubbing needed (the best thing when doing a lipswatch post)

I think that these lipsticks will look so beautiful against a matte finish foundation. Also, the use of lipliner to really carve out and define the lips added with these shades will look gorgeous. It almost makes me want to go out and start using lip liner.

Bottom line… Will I wear these?
Yes,
Do I recommend them to other?
Sure, why not - play around and have some fun.

Fifth Avenue Lipstick First Impressions

You get what you pay for.

Fifth Avenue is a new cosmetics brand exclusive so Kmart. They've been doing the roll out for a little while now whilst replacing their Face of Australia displays.

I'm always keen to try new makeup brands because its often you can find a good bargain. When trying out 'cheap' makeup I tend not to gravitate towards powder products because I find that is the hardest thing to get right and to be honest, I know what I like and I'll keep buying my faves. I saw that they had a little range of lipsticks. There were six shades and they were $6.00 AUD each! The colours intrigued me and the packaging was beautiful, I couldn't resist trying them out. I decided to buy them, I thought, why not? They're only $6.00 and to buy the entire range is the same as buying one MAC lipstick so that justified it to me.

The gorgeous gold tube and lid was nice and shiney, and instead of being fully enclosed, the bottom of the tube is clear so you can actually see the colours - a personal win in my opinion.

I was expecting them to be really dry or somewhat chalky but in fact they were quite the opposite. They were very moist. They reminded me a lot of my beloved Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks in that they were all super easy to apply but they didn't quite 'set'. In now way are they a matte formula, they're a cream finish. They feel quite wet on the lips but not like, 'drippy' or anything they're certainly not sticky like a gloss and whilst the colour is sheer, there is some pretty good pigmentation. Think if you mix a standard lipstick with NYX Butter Gloss something of that hybrid nature is what these reminded me of.

SWATCHES

Whisper:
A Baby pink almost bubblegum pink shade. On the cooler side of the pink spectrum.

Berry:
In my opinion a 'my lips but better' shade, and I think one of the most sheer of the set. It is a browny/brick colour. I don't think it looks very 'berry coloured'

Covet:
Cool toned red (my favourite kind of red) quite a nice colour and pretty good coverage. I think I'd wear this one the most.

Rose:
Coral / Pink shade. Looks lovely against fair skin.

Plum:
I wanted so much to love this shade but it is the most sheer of the set. To me this is more of a berry tone than 'Berry' is. It still looks lovely, I'd just have preferred some more opacity.

Hollywood:
Orange toned red. One of the most pigmented and also one of my favourites. Very wearable.

So those are the swatches. They're quite pretty colours, even though they're sheer, you can still see the colour on the lips, especially with Covet and Hollywood.

I did a little look online to see if anyone else had used these products and saw that these lippies got a bad wrap. I still decided to get them and honestly, I'm glad I did. I never know if I am going to like a product until I try it for myself. I am a little annoyed that there were no testers in store.

If you wanted to wear these lipsticks just as they are as a sheer wash of colour, I think they're fine. You'd have to reapply throughout the day but thats nothing out of the ordinary. Some people might have some trouble with the feel of them on the lips, if you are one for a matte feel, I don't suggest these at all. They're very buttery, a little slippery, NOT sticky but buttery.

One thing I don't like is that the bullet of product itself is somewhat loose in the tube, if you apply too much pressure when applying them, when you go to wind the product back down it might scrape against the side of the tube. With that in mind, there are so easy to apply that you don't need to use much pressure at all. I would suggest not having them in anywhere that is overly warm, such as a car on a hot day (that goes for all lipsticks really).

Concluding thoughts:

For the price, I think you are getting exactly what you pay for. If not for the product, buy it for the packaging because they look beautiful. If you want more of a long wearing use from these, apply them over the top of a lipliner, use these as a sheer gloss over the top of another colour, they're universal. Don't instantly hate on them because they don't feel the same as a MAC or NARS lipstick - they're not those brands, these cost $6 from Kmart. If you keep that in mind, I think you could get some enjoyment out of these. I'm not going to tell you to go out and get them because they're the be all and end all of beauty products. I think you get what you should for the price that you're paying.  There is also no smell - something I know people would be happy about.

Bottom line…
Will I wear them? Probably.

Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag!

Otherwise known as, "My Life"

So this may or may not come as a shock to you, but I procrastinate A LOT! (hence the name). I was minding my own business when my phone alerted me to a knew post going up from one of my beautiful friends and fellow beauty blogger Pastelsparkles. I read the title and instantly thought "yaaaaaaaahhhhhhhssssssss, this is my liiiifffffeeee" and then a few minutes later she tagged me in her post saying that I'd be perfect for it. Thanks babydoll, you know me so well! <3

(also, this post would have been up sooner, except I was procrastinating with the pic tile, ugh, what is my life?!)

So, lets get to it then, shall we?

Name a beauty regime that you rarely do?
Ugh, this is probably the biggest sin you could commit in the beauty world, but, I am so shitty at taking my makeup off before bed. I love skin care, so when I'm in the mood to do it, I let loose, but the majority of the time, I''m in bed with my laptop editing and if I'm cosy, which I most likely am, I'll leave it until the morning and do a super good cleanse then. Majority of the time, I won't be able to sleep so I'll get up and have a shower to calm down and relax so I'll take it off then, but the reason for getting out of bed isn't to cleanse face, that just happens due to circumstance.

Is washing your make-up brushes something that you do regularly?
As much as I want to say YES the answer is no. I'm looking at my beauty/makeup sponge now and I swear to god its crusty. I don't know what regularly is, but I spot clean my eye-makeup brushes kind of as I use them to change colours purely because I have a few favourites so I use them all the time, but as for a decent regular scrub, I'm rubbish at it, I'd probably go out and buy new brushes. Dear lord, I'm so bad at life.

How long will you last with chipped nail polish?
Well, I do my nails regularly, and I have the rule that once the polish is off the majority of at least ONE nail, I'll take it off and maybe re paint them, depends on how much time I have or if I can be bothered filming it. (I do nail art on my YouTube and blog etc. I'm generally ok if it chips around the tips of my nails, but if it is at the base/cuticle of the nail, I find that I dislike that a lot.

How long will you put off buying/replacing a beauty product, even if you need it?
Honestly, not that long. This is something that I keep on top of, if I notice that I'm almost out of a foundation, liquid eyeliner or mascara I go and get a refill before the product is empty. These things I find I can't live without. I have about a million shades of champagne eyeshadow but only ever one liquid eyeliner - go figure. Also, it gives me an excuse to buy other things that I 'need'.

What is your worst beauty habit?
You mean besides not cleaning my face or brushes? Probably my need to complete sets. If I have a few products from the same line - Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks or the Australis Velourlips I'll make it a mission to get them all, even if I don't like a colour, the shade doesn't suit me or something like that, 9 times out of 10 I'll wear it regardless because I do what I want and wear what I want. I dress/do my makeup for myself and no one else, so thats kind of justifying it. It is however a bit of a money sucker. Buying products that I don't LOVE, just to complete the set. I'll keep doing it though. Chi Chi glamourous palettes are the current collection I'm gunning for. Help me makeup jesus.

Also, brushing my hair, its naturally curly/wavy so my fellow frizzy babes will know that the struggle is real with this one. I get about two good days just letting it do what it wants, I've learnt that if I fight with it, it turns hostile. So once it gets bad, BOOM up in a bun you go my friend.

Name something non beauty related that you put off doing all the time?
Life? Everything? no, literally you underestimate my procrastination skills. My name is procrasticaitlan for a reason, I've showered 5 times in one day to put off doing something. I had an assignment to do, so instead I just sat and stared at the wall for an hour and a half daydreaming. I've re-arranged my spice rack because I didn't want to do the dishes once.

When going out somewhere, do you leave getting ready to the last minute?
No. Time management is something I pride myself on - go figure.
I leave it for the last thing I have to do though. I get everything else ready then sit and take my time with my makeup, during this time I plan everything else such as, outfits (usually I have an idea in my head anyway) transport, wondering where my keys are, what shoes to wear, should I eat now or wait until I return, should I mate my look to my outfit and match my outfit with my fiancés? yes.

Can you commit to spending bans?
Yes, I'm a really good saver. Don't get me wrong I can splurge like theres no tomorrow, but I save money really well. I can set myself a 'no buy' for a month and in that month if there is something I 100% need, I'll get it, but otherwise I'm reasonably good, unless its something I've been wanting for a while, but usually when that happens, I've already put money aside for it anyway so I can justify it. I find that if you let yourself have little treats, you're more likely to stick to a 'spending ban'. Also, student life makes me stick to 'no buys' a lot.

How organised are your make-up and nail polish collections?
Believe it or not, I organise things as a form of procrastination (hence the spice rack). I also like to make it look pretty and inviting. 9 times out of 10 I know where something is (the other time its probably in one of the numerous purses I take with me.
I'm currently re arranging and setting up a more permanent beauty vanity/organisation station so I can't wait for that to be finished.

And thats it! These were the questions in the tag, those were my answers (please don't judge me) I'd love to know what you're beauty procrastination and dirty little secrets are, so please if you do this, tag me in it or link it in the comment section!

Hope you enjoyed reading and if you have any other tags for me to do, let me know!

Confidence Boost + Daily Face + Mini Reviews

"Makeup of the Day"

A few things you should know about me:

I am the worst at deadlines.
Makeup makes me happy.
The reason I state those two things is because thats the kind of day I was having today. I didn't intend on posting today because I've got so much uni work to get on top of however, I thought I'd reward my hard work with a study break, in which I'll post this.

I wear makeup on the daily. Not every day is full blown face photoshop, but I like to look (what I think is) nice when I leave the house. It gives me a little confidence boost to get through my gruelling three hour lessons and general social anxiety.

Usually for uni I am in a hurry and when I have only 15minutes to get ready I don't usually experiment with makeup. Slap on some foundation and powder, draw on some brows, brush on a few safe neutral shimmer shades on the lids, wing it with the eyeliner, mascara and go. Today was different, I sat at my makeup desk (my regular desk just with makeup sprawled all over) and went for something new. I went for my 'Mattes' palette - new to my collection, I don't usually wear matte shades on the lids but I've been wanting to give them a go. So already I'm in uncharted territory, then I kicked it up a notch by heading for a khaki green shade - uh oh this could get tricky. I surprised myself in what I came out with and that made me happy. I went for a green (almost) smokey eye with light brown instead of black, safe colours yes, but different colours and a texture I wasn't used to.

I got to uni and headed straight for the café, mumma needs her pick-me-up (large soy mocha - no sugar/sweetener for those who are interested). I was waiting for my coffee and when my name was called the lovely barista handed me my hot cup of heaven and said: "you always look so glamourous". I said in return "I don't feel it." to which she said "well you look it, have a great day" we said our goodbyes and that was it, but that little conversation had truly made my day better - I scurried up to the library to smash out my assignment and decided I'd make a post about my makeup today because at least one person thought I looked nice.

Old favourite, I didn't like it at first but once its been open for a week it gets better.

Lips:
Rimmell London: Moisture Renew Lipstick - 720 Notting Hill Nude
These are some of my favourite lipsticks of all time. This colour is super on trend at the moment and I'm loving it, especially paired with this eye look.

Perfume:
I'm putting this in here too as I got a few compliments on what I was wearing:
Kylie Minogue: Darling
One of my favourite scents.

I'm absolutely rubbish at selfies - and front camera on iPhone isn't the best either - however this was my face today and this is what made me feel good.

I quite like doing posts structured like this, please let me know it it was easy to read with the product and my thoughts, written underneath in italics.

Thanks for reading
